RISE
Sierra Grant: $5,000 in the 4th quarter of 2018
Mission: Transform the lives of sexual and intimate partner violence survivors in San Luis Obispo County, their families and the community through services and education that promote safety, healing and empowerment.
All the non-profits we collaborate with have a vision for their community—what’s your vision?
A world free of sexual and intimate partner violence.
Describe your organization and/or the work you do in three words.
Respect, Inspire, Support, Empower. (Sorry, we can’t do only 3 words! This is our tagline and it describes how we do our work!)
What specific work have you been using donations to accomplish recently?
We experienced a 50 percent increase in calls after the #MeToo movement began, so our donations have been supporting our counseling department. At its peak, over 200 people were on the waiting list for our counseling department, and some people had to wait over six months to see a therapist. We are now down to 90 people waiting three months for counseling.
Do you have an individual success story to share from your organization’s efforts?
We have videos highlighting victims that we’ve served on our website.
Educating the public about causes is an important part of non-profit work. Is there something you’d like everyone to know about the people you help or the efforts of your team?
One in three women are impacted by sexual assault, sexual abuse, and intimate partner violence. This issue is more common than we like to believe. Most people don’t know about us until they need us, but we are here, 24/7, to support anyone impacted by these issues. Like a phoenix rising up out of the ashes, we support victims in their healing journey.
What should people know if they want to volunteer with RISE?
